Bio
Benoît Dupont is the holder of the Canada Research Chair in Cyber-Resilience and the Research Chair for the Prevention of Cybercrime (www.prevention-cybercrime.ca). He is a Professor of Criminology at the Université de Montréal and the Scientific Director of the Human-Centric Cybersecurity Partnership (HC2P), which he founded in 2021. He also sits as an observer representing the research community on the Board of Directors of the Canadian Canadian Cyber Threat Exchange (CCTX).
He is also a member of CATAAlliance's Cybercrime Advisory Council. His current research interests focus on the changes triggered by new technologies in the fields of public and private security, with an ecosystemic and a cyber-resilience focus. He studies online fraud and the needs of victims, the social organization of cyber-offenders and leadership within organized cybercrime groups, as well as the governance of security and public-private partnerships.
In 2014, he was appointed as one of the members of the inaugural cohort of the College of New Scholars, Artists and Scientists of the Royal Society of Canada. He has received several awards including the "Médaille Vigilance et Loyauté argent" awarded by the Sûreté du Québec in September 2013 and the "Beccaria Prize" established to distinguish a researcher or a research team whose contribution to criminology was noticed both in the field of fundamental or theoretical research as well as in applied, operational or evaluative research. In 2010, he received the "Francopol Prize", recognizing perseverance and rigor in research and education to combat cybercrime. In 2004, he received the "Gabriel-Tarde Prize" and in 2005, the "Denis-Caroll Young Researcher Award".
